IIE Global E3

Recognizing a growing demand for internationally experienced engineering graduates, a group of leading universities around the world established the IIE Global Engineering Education Exchange (Global E3) in 1995. IIE Global E3 is an exchange program for engineering students to participate in study abroad exchange while continuing to pay tuition at home.

With 70 member universities in over 20 countries, the IIE Global E3 program has approximately 250-300 student participants each academic year.

  • Tuition Swap: Global E3 students pay tuition at their home institution while enjoying the benefits of attending a partner school.
  • Flexible Timing: Global E3 students can study abroad for one semester: Semester A (start terms within the last 5 months of the calendar) or Semester B (start term within the first 5 months of the calendar year); or up to two semesters: Semester A + Semester B (full academic year).
  • Internships: Some member schools offer a supplemental internship option after students complete the exchange experience. Schools may help students with industrial placements near the university, co-op internships within the university, and more.

IIE Global E3 participants gain additional language, intercultural, and professional experience to excel in the multinational/multicultural business environment of the 21st century. The importance of this unique program has been recognized by the National Science Foundation, AT&T Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Education - all provided start-up funds for the program. The program continues to be sustained by participating consortium membership fees and corporate funding.
